La vie est Belge

Each week, somewhere in Belgium, a tradition is upheld or a local festival is celebrated. "La Vie est Belge" is a visual journey through various local folk festivals, from bizarre rituals like goose riding in the Antwerp Polders to the impressive giant omelet of Malmedy. Each festival is unique, but together they share a common goal: strengthening the bond between neighbors and enhancing the sense of community.

Folk festivals are more than just entertainment. For local residents, they are an opportunity to come together, reminisce, and express their identity. They play a crucial role in preserving cultural traditions and promoting a sense of togetherness and solidarity. By participating, neighbors rediscover the value and joy of these events.

"La Vie est Belge" not only captures the festivities but focuses especially on how the participants experience their traditions. The photo series is a tribute to the resilience, survival instinct, and community spirit that, despite the times, is still very much alive in many Belgian villages and towns but receives too little attention. It is an invitation to recognize and appreciate the beauty and importance of these traditions.
